Long: Replace Federal Rules with Common Sense Rules

Press Release

Date: Feb. 11, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Billy Long is working to get to the bottom of what appears to be an illogical rule impacting students who participate in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Afterschool Snack Program.

The rule states that students participating in afterschool programs who receive a snack from the USDA program are not allowed to take an unfinished snack with them when they leave the building, which results in some snacks being thrown away wasting taxpayer dollars.

"Washington bureaucrats crank out lots of silly rules and regulations with little thought as to how they will impact hard working taxpayers. I am working to get to the bottom of one such rule brought to my attention by a constituent. I have been in contact with the USDA and working with them to get clarification of this rule, and will be looking for a way to get rid of it. This nonsensical rule has no logic and needs replacing with a common sense rule," Long said.

"Part of my role as the people's representative for Missouri's 7th District is to be their advocate in Washington. If anyone comes across other questionable federal rules they have concerns with please reach out to my office so we can investigate," Long said.
